Why we do this?
The weight loss journey is not easy. There are times when I flat out do not want to go to the gym or eat healthy but, I always have to go back to why I am doing this. Me personally, I always think about my health. I think about how much I want to live long enough to see my children grow up or to help my parents when they get older, instead of them helping me. I think about all the positive things I can do. Whenever we are losing weight there are 3 things we should always think about when we start this process.
- What I want to accomplish?
There should always be a goal when you start this journey. It should never be something that you do not personally want to accomplish. It should always be internal and not external. If you are losing weight to make other people happy, then there is a high chance that you will not fulfill that goal. However, when it is something personal that you want to accomplish for yourself, then you are very likely to accomplish your goals.
- How long will it take?
We are fortunate that we live in a world with so much access to information. However, knowing how long it will it take to accomplish a goal is not always black and white. If your goal is to lose 15lbs in one month and lose 7lbs in your 1st week and then lose on 1lb the next week then you would probably think that it would be impossible to accomplish it? The goal is still in reach, but remember that losing weight should not be a race, but a journey. Remember to make realistic goals, such as “I will lose at least a 1lb a week.” Some weeks you might lose 2-3lbs in that week, but remember that losing weight is ongoing lifestyle change and not quick.
- What to look for?
The journey is long, brutal, and frustrating at times. However, if you think about what will happen when you do reach those goals then it will motivate you to do it. imagine how you will feel? You will feel happiness, confidence, and a sense of accomplishment. Other people will notice, but most important you will notice. You cannot build Rome in a day, so why do we think we can reach our fitness goals also that quickly.
